School Program Overview

Children’s Yoga

~ with Monique Lamore, CCLYI, LCSW ~

The basic yoga class includes:
*        Breath work – can help children learn to calm their bodies & minds, focus, or give them an energy boost depending on the situation.
*    Mindfulness Activities.
*       Songs & chants.
*       Yoga Poses – including pose sequences.  Young children especially enjoy acting out different yoga poses that coincide with stories.
*       Partner/Group Poses – great for building community & trust in others.
*        Games/Creative Movement – these can include yoga obstacle courses, musical mats, yoga freeze dance, acting out stories, & much more!
*       Relaxation/Visualization – classes end with children learning how to relax their bodies and how their bodies feel when they are relaxed, as they listen to a guided visualization.
*        Journaling & yoga themed art projects are often integrated (as time allows).
*         Certain themes can be incorporated in the class: what the children are studying at school, the theme of the venue (e.g. a farm theme), certain books from the library, holidays, etc.
Principles of yoga are incorporated, explored and encouraged:  practicing peace, being honest, being generous, taking care of ourselves and others, practicing moderation, being content, working hard, having alone time, and connecting to all living things.
